Special Olympics Spring Games have recently been held in many places across the country, including our own Murdoch Developmental Center. This incredible event would not have been possible at Murdoch without the many volunteers, participants, and spectators on site. The new concrete pathways, seating area, and shade canopies made it much more enjoyable!
Summer Games are just around the corner and Murdoch Center’s own Nicola Elwood has been named as Summer Games Director for Special Olympics North Carolina! She will help plan and implement the three-day event for about 2000 athletes from across the state to compete in seven sports (athletics, swimming, bowling, basketball, volleyball, powerlifting, and gymnastics). Summer Games will be held May 30-June 1 in various locations around Raleigh and Wake County. In an effort to support all of those competitions as well as other special events, they need about 2000 volunteers.
Please consider volunteering at one of the venues. There are many different types of opportunities available such as being an athlete escort, assisting with competitions, keeping score, helping with support services like meals, security, directing traffic, selling souvenirs, being an usher at Opening Ceremony, or helping with activities in Olympic Town at the Victory Dance.
